About Dreifmenntun V-Bard.

Dreifmenntun V-Bard is a developing project in the field of elementary education in the district of Vestur Bardastrandarsysla in Iceland and is based on the use of IT in teaching.  This project is supported by the Icelandic ministry of education and the ministry of industry.  The preperation started early in the year 2002.  Participants in this project are the two elementary schools in this district, the elementary school of Talknafjordur and the elementary school of Vesturbyggd, which has three schools, in Patreksfjordur which is the largest school in the district, but the other schools are in Bildudalur and in Birkimelur, which is a country school.

The project''''s prelude.

The district "Vestur Bardastrandarsysla", has been suffering from great emigrant of people to the south-west part of Iceland.  This has caused the villages in this district great difficulties in fulfilling the peoples need for modern education in modern society.  The distance between schools is about 19-40 km and one has to travel rough mountain roads and through high sea cliff roads, a hard winter makes this journey even more dangerous.  This was tha main reason that the locals started to look to the IT revolution for a solution.

Goal.

The main goals of this project are:

• To use IT in the local schools and to improve their methods.
• To change the way people think about schools and education.
• To improve the quality in teaching.
• To increase "internet teaching" and increase cooperation between schools in the district.
• To improve the quality of the human resources of schools.

Ways to reach the goal.

To reach the goals in this project it is necessary to define and organize and make plans for the project,to secure its implementation.  This requires the following:

• To define the participants in the project.
• To define their role in the project.
• Timetables, plans , execution and budgeting.
• Individual valuation of teacher''''s experience and knowledge.
• To define the retraining and seminars plans for the teachers.
• To adjust and implement those plans to the work in the schools.
• To analyze the need for equipment and devices.
• Purchasing of equipment and devices.
• Coordination of equipment and devices with the participation of teachers and pupils.
• Making of syllabus and to coordinate the timetables of schools.
• The start of experimental teaching in schools in the project.
• The reviewing of the project plan, timetables and budget.

Vision.

Bearing this vision in mind, the participants hope that the gain from it will be among things:

• A better school community that uses interactive IT between schools, in teaching.
• Competent teachers that use the most modern technology and methods in their work.
• Contented pupils.
• Improving result in study.
• Improving opportunity to study.
• Positive marginal effect in the district.
• Interactive connection between parents, teachers and school authorities to observe their children''''s study.
• A stronger settlement in the district of Vestur Bardastrandarsysla.
